Artist Douglas Sydnor’s roots are in the Sonoran Desert, as the son of a Phoenix-area pianist and well-respected architect. This special place with its varied landscape, textured terrain, intense sunlight, and strong shadows with crisp forms inform the work. He consistently took art classes throughout his youth and at the university. In his teen years, the work was featured in regional art exhibitions and received numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the Teenage Arts Bazaar at Scottsdale Fashion Square open-air mall. Over 40 exhibitions including those at Arizona Artist Guild, The Beatitudes, Scottsdale's Cattle Track Gallery, and Phoenix's American Institute of Architects | Arizona Gallery have featured the art. Additionally the work has been displayed at the Dick Seeger Art Gallery, Yares Gallery, and Bentley Gallery of Scottsdale. Approximately forty private and corporate collections include Doug's art pieces. His art is found in the Mesa Contemporary Art Museum and Scottsdale Fine Arts permanent collections.

Doug has also been extremely active in supporting Arizona's visual and performing arts for over 40 years. During this time you could see his involvement in the Phoenix Art Museum, Scottsdale Cultural Council, and Arizonans for Cultural Development - among a few examples. Doug served for 10 years as the chair of the Scottsdale Sister Cities ‘Young Artists and Authors Showcase,’ a city-wide high school art and writing competition. A series of publications since the 1970s have appeared in the Arizona Republic, Phoenix Home and Garden, The Business Journal, and Better Homes and Gardens. Doug received a Bachelor of Architecture at Arizona State University and a Masters in Architecture from Harvard University.
